Bengaluru, February 19: The Karnataka Lokayukta has found no evidence against Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, his wife B.M. Parvathi, and others in the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) case, effectively giving them a clean chit. The anti-corruption watchdog reached this conclusion a week after submitting its final report to its headquarters in Bengaluru for review.
Following an extensive investigation into the MUDA site allotment case, the Lokayukta formally communicated its findings to Snehamayi Krishna, one of the petitioners who had filed allegations against the Chief Minister and his family. The letter confirmed that there was no material evidence to substantiate the charges.
Extensive Investigation and Clean Chit
As part of the probe, the Lokayukta examined over 100 individuals, including bureaucrats, politicians, retired officials, and MUDA representatives. Among those questioned were CM Siddaramaiah, his wife B.M. Parvathi, and his brother-in-law B.M. Mallikarjuna Swamy.
The investigation was initiated in September 2024 following a directive from a special court for elected representatives in Bengaluru. The probe was led by Mysuru Lokayukta Superintendent of Police T.J. Udesh. The case was registered after the state governor, Thawar Chand Gehlot, approved an inquiry into the allegations.
Legal Background
The investigation scrutinized potential violations under multiple legal provisions. These included the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which governs criminal offenses in India, and the Prevention of Corruption Act, aimed at tackling corruption among public officials. Additionally, the probe examined possible infractions under the Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions Act, which prevents illegal property ownership through proxy holders, and the Karnataka Land Grabbing Prohibition Act, designed to curb unauthorized land acquisitions.
Despite the serious nature of the allegations, the Lokayukta’s findings effectively clear Siddaramaiah and the other accused of any wrongdoing in the MUDA case. This development comes as a major relief for the Karnataka Chief Minister, who had faced scrutiny over the issue in recent months.
