Sonauli, India – In a significant operation against drug trafficking, security forces apprehended a Nepalese national in possession of heroin at the Indo-Nepal border on Monday. Acting on a credible intelligence input, a joint team comprising personnel from the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the local police conducted a routine security check at the Sonauli border post, where they intercepted the accused. The individual, identified as 19-year-old Joginder Darekar from Nepal’s Rupandehi district, was found carrying a substantial quantity of narcotics.

According to Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Atish Kumar Singh, the security team seized 19 grams of heroin from Darekar, with an estimated market value of ₹19 lakh. The accused was taken into custody, and preliminary investigations suggest that he may have been part of a larger drug smuggling network operating in the region. Authorities are probing possible links to cross-border narcotics syndicates that have been increasingly using porous border routes for illicit drug trade.
