BJP Criticizes Rahul Gandhi Over Lok Sabha Remarks, Accuses Him of Favoring China

New Delhi – The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) launched a scathing attack on Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Monday, accusing him of making "false and objectionable" claims in the Lok Sabha. The party alleged that Gandhi demonstrated an unusual inclination toward China by mentioning the country 35 times during his speech. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra went so far as to dub him "Rahul Jinping," suggesting an affinity for China that he said raises concerns. The remarks came amid a heated debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address, where Gandhi criticized the government’s foreign policy and electoral process.

The BJP also took strong exception to recent comments made by former Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Tribal BJP members submitted a breach of privilege notice against her, urging Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar to take cognizance of her alleged use of "derogatory and slanderous" language against President Droupadi Murmu within the Parliament complex. Separately, BJP MPs from the Scheduled Tribe community filed another privilege notice with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla against Independent MP Pappu Yadav for his remarks about the President. BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy emphasized the gravity of the matter, asserting that any comment demeaning the head of state is "unacceptable."

Meanwhile, Gandhi’s assertions in Parliament, including allegations that Prime Minister Narendra Modi denied the presence of Chinese forces in Indian territory despite contrary claims by the Indian Army, provoked a strong reaction from the ruling party. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju dismissed Gandhi’s statements as baseless, accusing him of undermining the credibility of India's electoral process and institutions. Rijiju criticized Gandhi for suggesting that India lags behind China in manufacturing, blaming the Congress-led UPA government for fostering an unfavorable trade deficit with Beijing. He further warned that the BJP may seek parliamentary action against Gandhi for "misleading the House" with what he termed as "fabricated" claims.
