Udhampur (Jammu and Kashmir): The Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP) has emerged as a transformative initiative for many young entrepreneurs in Udhampur, providing concessional loans to help them establish or expand their businesses.
According to Udhampur Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai, a total of 69 applicants from the district have benefitted from the scheme.
"The Khadi & Village Industries Commission (KVIC) implements the REGP scheme, offering a 35% subsidy on loans sanctioned based on different age groups. So far, 69 applicants from Udhampur have availed the benefits of this initiative," Rai told ANI.
For Tariq Aziz, a resident of Kud village, the REGP scheme has played a crucial role in his entrepreneurial journey. He utilized the loan to expand his poultry farm, which has significantly improved his income.
"I started a small business, and as more people showed interest, I decided to expand. I opted for a poultry farm to generate better income. Currently, I have 2 to 3 people working with me. This government scheme is motivating youth to become self-reliant, and I am grateful for the support," Aziz told ANI.
