BJP Secures Major Victory in Haryana Municipal Elections; Hooda Downplays Results

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged victorious in the Haryana municipal elections, securing mayoral posts in nine municipalities, with the exception of Manesar. The elections, held on March 2, saw a decisive win for the party, further cementing its political influence in the state.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini attributed the triumph to the effectiveness of the "triple-engine government" at the local, state, and central levels. Speaking to reporters, Saini emphasized that the newly elected local body representatives would play a vital role in realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a "Viksit Bharat" (Developed India). He described the election results as a "stamp of approval" from the people of Haryana, reinforcing confidence in the government’s policies.

Despite the BJP's strong performance, former Haryana Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda downplayed the significance of the results. Addressing the media, Hooda remarked that the BJP had previously won local body elections and questioned what was new in this victory. "We never claimed to have contested these elections seriously," he stated, adding that even during his tenure as Chief Minister, he refrained from directly participating in Panchayat elections. Hooda emphasized that such elections are often influenced by local brotherhood and independent candidates rather than party politics.

Among the victorious candidates, Parveen Joshi, the BJP’s mayor-elect from Faridabad, expressed gratitude to the people for their trust. Acknowledging key civic concerns such as water supply, waste management, and sewage issues, Joshi assured residents that the administration would work proactively to address these challenges. She highlighted the support of Union Minister Krishan Pal Gurjar, stating that there would be no bureaucratic obstacles in the implementation of essential development schemes.

The Haryana Election Commission confirmed Joshi’s victory over Congress candidate Lata Rani by an overwhelming margin of 3,16,852 votes, underscoring BJP’s dominance in the region.

As the newly elected representatives prepare to assume office, the focus now shifts to governance and addressing the pressing civic issues that impact millions of residents across Haryana.
