Kenmare, March 24 – The search for Michael Gaine, a 56-year-old sheep and cattle farmer who went missing on Thursday in Kenmare, continued for a fourth consecutive day, with more than 200 volunteers assisting in the efforts.
Coordinated Search Efforts
Local volunteers have joined forces with GardaÃ, the fire service, Kerry Civil Defence, Iveragh Coast Guard, and Kerry Mountain Rescue, alongside the Irish Coast Guard helicopter, Rescue 115, to conduct extensive searches in the Carraig East area of Kenmare.
On Saturday, search teams focused on rugged terrain surrounding Mr. Gaine’s residence, both above and below the property. Several vehicles, including Mr. Gaine’s car, were removed from the scene as part of the ongoing investigation.
Community Expresses Deep Concern
Independent Councillor Dan McCarthy, manager of Kenmare Co-Op and a close friend of the missing farmer, expressed his concern over the unusual circumstances of Mr. Gaine’s disappearance.
“It’s not like Michael to go missing. He has 1,000 acres of land in the area, but he and his wife live outside Kenmare,” McCarthy told RTÉ News.
Acknowledging the overwhelming community response, he added: “You can see the massive amount of cars and people here searching late into the night and again today. We're all deeply concerned, and I want to thank everyone who has come out to help.”
Authorities continue to appeal to the public for any information that could aid in locating Mr. Gaine as search efforts intensify.
