The results for the Haryana Municipal Corporation Elections 2025 are being announced today, March 12, following the polls conducted on March 2. The elections were held to elect mayors and ward members across seven Municipal Corporations, as well as presidents and ward members for four Municipal Councils and 21 Municipal Committees.
Voter turnout remained low at 41%, reflecting subdued public participation across local bodies. A separate mayoral election for Panipat was conducted on March 9.
BJP Maintains Stronghold, Congress Struggles
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a decisive lead across multiple key municipal bodies, including Ambala, Gurugram, Hisar, Panipat, and Faridabad. Despite a closely contested battle with the Indian National Congress (INC), BJP has outperformed its rivals, further cementing its influence in Haryana’s urban political landscape.
One of the most anticipated contests was in Gurugram, where BJP’s Raj Rani defeated Congress candidate Seema Pahuja, securing a total of 270,781 votes. Similarly, BJP’s Parveen Joshi won the Faridabad mayoral race, defeating INC’s Lata Rani by a significant margin.
Other key results include:
- Hisar: BJP’s Praveen Popli triumphed over Congress’s Krishna Titu Singla.
- Rohtak: BJP’s Ram Avtar Valmiki secured victory by 45,198 votes.
- Panipat: BJP’s Komal Saini is leading, with Congress candidate Savita Sanjay Garg trailing by 28,807 votes.
- Sohna: BJP’s Preeti Bangdi defeated Congress’s Lalita in a closely contested race.
Meanwhile, Manesar has officially elected its first-ever mayor, with Independent candidate Dr. Inderjit Yadav securing victory by 2,293 votes, defeating BJP’s Sunder Lal. Congress candidate Virender Yadav came in third with 5,143 votes.
Security Measures and Election Oversight
To ensure smooth vote counting, heavy security arrangements have been implemented, particularly in Karnal, where multiple security layers have been deployed. Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajeev Kumar confirmed that police forces have been stationed at key locations to maintain law and order.
“The security setup includes multiple layers of protection, with officers deployed inside and outside the counting centers. The election process is proceeding peacefully,” he told PTI.
As counting nears its final phase, BJP continues to dominate, further solidifying its urban political presence in Haryana. The party’s strong performance highlights its growing influence ahead of the next state and national elections.
