Siliguri, March [Date] – The Indian Air Force (IAF) flagged off a high-energy bike expedition from Bagdogra Air Force Station in Siliguri on Tuesday. The initiative, led by Air Marshal Surat Singh, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Air Command, aims to promote awareness about the IAF and encourage youth in the northeastern region to consider a career in the Air Force.
The expedition team consists of 38 members, including IAF security personnel and enthusiastic participants from the civilian motorcycle community. The route will cover 2,800 kilometers, traversing West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, and other northeastern states before culminating in Shillong on March 28.
Promoting Camaraderie and Adventure
The event was officially flagged off by Air Commodore Manish Sharma, Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Station Bagdogra. Speaking on the occasion, Air Marshal Surat Singh highlighted the expedition’s objectives, emphasizing sportsmanship, adventurism, team building, and camaraderie.
"This initiative serves to strengthen the bond between the IAF and the people of the region while inspiring young minds to explore career opportunities in the Air Force. The northeast has a significant presence in the IAF, and we want to encourage more youth to join," he stated.
Engaging with the Community
Beyond the journey itself, the bikers will engage with schools, colleges, and NCC cadets, offering insights into life in the Indian Air Force and the opportunities it presents.
"I am personally participating in this expedition to support the team and witness their enthusiasm firsthand," Air Marshal Singh added. "Throughout the journey, we will interact with students and aspiring cadets, providing them with information on how to join the Air Force and what to expect in their future careers."
The expedition reflects the IAF’s commitment to fostering adventure, discipline, and national pride while strengthening its connection with the northeastern states.
