Meerut Murder Case: Accused Muskan Rastogi Seeks Government Defense Counsel as Family Disowns Her

Meerut, Uttar Pradesh: Muskan Rastogi, accused of murdering her husband Saurabh Rajput with her lover Sahil Shukla, has requested a government defense counsel, stating that her family has disowned her and will not fight for her in court.

Rastogi and Shukla are currently lodged in Meerut District Jail for the gruesome murder of Rajput, who was stabbed to death on March 4. The duo later dismembered his body and hid the remains in a drum filled with cement.

According to Senior Jail Superintendent Viresh Raj Sharma, both the accused are being held in separate barracks, designated for male and female inmates, ensuring no contact between them.

"Yesterday, Muskan wanted to meet me, I called her. She said that her family is upset and won't fight her case. So, she be provided a government defense counsel. We are sending a plea to the court because it is the right of the inmate," Sharma told ANI.

Drug Addiction and Withdrawal Symptoms

Investigations have revealed that both Rastogi and Shukla are struggling with drug addiction. Rastogi has reportedly been demanding morphine injections, while Shukla has been craving marijuana. Their refusal to eat has been identified as a withdrawal symptom.

Jail officials are addressing their addiction through medication and de-addiction programs, along with counseling, yoga, and meditation sessions. Sharma further stated, "We are trying to ensure that common inmates stay away from them and not ask about their case again and again."

Family’s Strong Stance Against Muskan

Rastogi’s father, Pramod, played a crucial role in bringing her to justice. He personally escorted her to the police station, where she eventually confessed to the crime. Initially, she gave vague responses to her parents, but under pressure, she admitted to the murder.

Expressing his strong disapproval of his daughter's actions, Pramod has called for capital punishment. "The verdict, in this case, should come fast, and I don't want anything less than capital punishment for her. What she did is very wrong... my son-in-law should get justice," he told ANI.

With the accused now awaiting trial, legal proceedings will determine the course of justice in this chilling murder case.
