Thiruvananthapuram: Former Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar is set to assume the position of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Kerala State President, according to reports. The recommendation for his appointment was made by BJP’s Kerala in-charge, Prakash Javadekar.
Ahead of the selection process, the BJP Core Committee meeting is scheduled to convene in Thiruvananthapuram today. The nomination process for the state president will be open between 2 PM and 3 PM. Among the key contenders for the position were Rajeev Chandrasekhar, incumbent state president K. Surendran, M.T. Ramesh, and Sobha Surendran. However, in an effort to avoid an internal election, the BJP central leadership has reportedly decided to appoint Chandrasekhar.
Following the BJP State Council meeting tomorrow, the official announcement of the new state president is expected at 11 AM.

A seasoned entrepreneur and politician, Rajeev Chandrasekhar (born May 31, 1964) has played a significant role in Indian politics. A former Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, Skill Development, and Jal Shakti, he served in the Rajya Sabha from 2006 to 2024, representing Karnataka. He was a prominent member of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and served as Vice-Chairman of the BJP-led NDA in Kerala.
Chandrasekhar lost his ministerial position after contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Thiruvananthapuram, where he was defeated by Shashi Tharoor by a margin of 16,077 votes.
During his tenure, he was actively involved in several parliamentary committees, including the Standing Committee on Finance, Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Joint Committee on Data Protection Bill, and Consultative Committee on IT and Communications. Rajeev Chandrasekhar is married to Anju Chandrasekhar, the daughter of T.P.G. Nambiar, the founder of BPL Group. The couple has two children and resides in Bengaluru along with his parents, M.K. Chandrasekhar and Anandavalli Amma.
