London, March 29, 2025 – Prince Harry was reportedly unaware of King Charles III’s recent hospitalization until the news became public, raising fresh concerns about his growing estrangement from the royal family.
The King, who is undergoing cancer treatment, was admitted briefly due to temporary side effects. Buckingham Palace, in a statement, reassured the public that the visit was “no cause for concern” and was simply part of the monarch’s treatment plan.
A Growing Sense of Isolation for Prince Harry
Sources close to the Duke of Sussex describe him as feeling “lonelier than ever” in California. Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Harry has largely remained at his Montecito residence, leading to speculation about his personal struggles.
“First he was a spare to William, now he's increasingly looking like a spare to Meghan – and it's not a great look,” a royal insider told The Sun.
Despite missing his family, the source added, “no one is speaking to him anymore. He just wants to grab a beer with the guys, but his only friends are the husbands of Meghan’s friends.”
Did the Palace Withhold Information from Harry?
Reports suggest that the palace deliberately delayed informing Harry about his father’s hospital visit, possibly to prevent unnecessary alarm while he remained 5,000 miles away in the United States.
On Friday, King Charles was seen leaving Clarence House in London, appearing in good spirits as he waved to the public before heading to Highgrove House in Gloucestershire.
Harry’s Strained Ties with the Royal Family
Harry last saw his father in February 2024, when he made a short trip to the UK following King Charles' cancer diagnosis. The meeting was reportedly brief, lasting only 30 minutes, before Charles departed for Sandringham by helicopter.
His relationship with Prince William has also deteriorated. During a visit to the UK for the funeral of their uncle, Robert Fellowes, last year, the brothers reportedly had minimal interaction.
A Life in California – But at What Cost?
Prince Harry has made it clear that he will not return to the UK unless he wins his legal battle for 24-hour armed security, a stance that further distances him from his former life.
However, those close to him question whether his new lifestyle truly suits him.
“He used to love a night out at the pub and hanging out in the countryside with friends,” a source told The Times.
“Maybe he’s grown into a different person, but I can’t imagine he ever saw himself living in this gilded exile in California.”
For now, Harry remains in California, but speculation continues over whether his self-imposed exile has come at too high a price.
