Dublin, March 20, 2025 – Public transport services in Dublin city centre were temporarily suspended this evening as a large-scale protest in support of Palestine took over key routes. Hundreds of demonstrators gathered outside Government buildings on Kildare Street before marching to O’Connell Bridge, where they staged a sit-down protest, disrupting traffic and transportation services.
Due to the protest, Luas services between Dominick and St Stephen’s Green were suspended during peak commuting hours, while Dublin Bus routes were also affected.
Chanting “Stop the bombing now. We are the people, we won’t be silenced,” protesters waved Palestinian flags and carried signs demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The demonstration in Dublin follows similar protests in New York, Paris, and other capital cities, where thousands have taken to the streets in recent days to call for an end to the violence.
Advocacy groups, including Mothers Against Genocide and Social Right Ireland, shared videos of the protest on social media, highlighting the impact of the demonstration on Dublin’s city centre. Protesters gathered outside Kildare Street before moving towards O’Connell Bridge at around 7 PM, blocking a major intersection used by buses, trams, and private vehicles.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed that the protest had ended peacefully. “Those attending this public gathering in Dublin City Centre have now peacefully dispersed. Traffic and public transport services in the area are now returning to normal.”
Israeli Offensive in Gaza Intensifies Amid Calls for Ceasefire
The protest comes as Israeli forces resume ground operations in central and southern Gaza, following a renewed wave of airstrikes. According to local health officials, at least 48 Palestinians were killed in the past 24 hours, while over 400 deaths were reported the previous day, making it one of the deadliest attacks since the war began in October 2023.
The Israeli military stated that its operations aim to strengthen control over the Netzarim Corridor, a strategic route bisecting Gaza, and to establish a partial buffer zone between the northern and southern regions of the enclave.
Hamas has condemned the latest military actions, calling the incursion into the Netzarim Corridor a “new and dangerous violation” of the ceasefire agreement that had been in place since January. The group has urged international mediators to intervene but has not issued any immediate threats of retaliation.
As tensions escalate in Gaza, global protests are gaining momentum, with demonstrators calling for urgent diplomatic intervention and an end to hostilities.
