New Delhi, , With BJP National President JP Nadda’s tenure coming to an end, anticipation is mounting over his successor. According to reports, the new party chief is likely to be finalized during the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) National Executive and National Council meetings scheduled to take place in Bengaluru from April 18 to 20.
A Leader from South India Likely to Take the Helm
Sources suggest a strong possibility that the next BJP national president could be from South India, as the party seeks to expand its influence in the region ahead of key state elections. Among the frontrunners for the position are Andhra Pradesh BJP President Daggubati Purandeswari and BJP Mahila Morcha National President and Coimbatore MLA Vanathi Srinivasan.
Purandeswari, who joined BJP in 2014, has extensive organizational experience and is often referred to as the "Sushma Swaraj of the South" due to her leadership style. Srinivasan, on the other hand, is a prominent figure in Tamil Nadu politics and is known for her grassroots influence.
Other Contenders in the Race
Beyond the two women leaders, names of senior BJP figures such as former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan are also being considered. However, sources indicate that while both the BJP and RSS are aligned on the potential candidacy of Chouhan and Pradhan, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has expressed reservations regarding Khattar’s name.
Strategic Shift Towards South India
BJP’s focus on appointing a leader from South India aligns with its broader electoral strategy, particularly as assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and Kerala approach. Strengthening the party’s presence in these states remains a priority, and a national president from the region could provide a crucial organizational boost.
As the party’s leadership convenes in Bengaluru next month, all eyes will be on the much-anticipated announcement of BJP’s next national president, a decision that is expected to shape the party’s trajectory ahead of the upcoming elections.
