Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday strongly criticized the Samajwadi Party (SP), accusing it of playing with India's religious sentiments while labeling his governance as communal. Responding to Leader of Opposition (LoP) Mata Prasad Pandey’s remarks in the state assembly, Adityanath asserted that his government is committed to inclusive development for all.
"You exploit India's religious sentiments and then call our ideology communal. How is it communal? Our vision is rooted in inclusive progress, guided by the principle of Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah, Sarve Santu Niramaya (May all be happy, may all be free from illness)," Adityanath was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
Maha Kumbh Showcased India's Cultural Heritage
Highlighting the recently concluded Maha Kumbh, the Chief Minister emphasized that the global participation in the religious event reaffirmed India's rich cultural heritage.
"Over 100 countries participated with devotion. There was no discrimination based on caste, sect, or religion. Everyone who attended left deeply moved," he stated.
Adityanath also accused the opposition of attempting to spread "negative propaganda" about the Maha Kumbh, claiming that such efforts had failed to influence public perception.
"The misinformation campaign you orchestrated had no impact on people's faith. Your negativity was rejected by both the people of Uttar Pradesh and the nation. Soon, the public will completely stop listening to you," he asserted.
Development in Sambhal and the Party's Ideological Shift
Addressing the assembly, Adityanath also referenced developmental efforts in Sambhal, linking them to the broader vision of preserving faith and heritage.
"The Mahakumbh helped us develop better infrastructure in Prayagraj, a city steeped in history and tradition. Similarly, what we are doing in Sambhal is also driven by faith," he was quoted as saying by ANI.
Taking a direct swipe at the SP leadership, Adityanath accused the party of deviating from the principles of socialist icon Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia.
"Today's Samajwadi Party may invoke Dr. Lohia’s name, but it has lost its way. The party has abandoned the values and ideals he stood for," he remarked.
