Criminal Case Filed Against Doctor Following Maternal and Fetal Death in Thane

Thane, India: The Thane city police have registered a criminal case against a female doctor associated with a private hospital in the Manpada area. This action follows the death of a pregnant woman and her fetus in February 2022.

According to police reports, the deceased woman, a resident of Ghodbunder, was admitted to the aforementioned private hospital on February 9, 2022. She received medical treatment at the facility until the late afternoon, after which attending doctors advised her family members to transfer her to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital, a medical institution operated by the Thane Municipal Corporation.

Tragically, both the pregnant woman and her unborn child died subsequent to this transfer. The woman's husband subsequently filed a formal complaint with the Kasarvadavli police, alleging deficiencies in the medical treatment provided at the private hospital. This complaint initiated an official investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.

As part of the investigative process, the Thane District Government Hospital was tasked with preparing a comprehensive medical report. Authorities meticulously reviewed the treatment protocols implemented by the private hospital and assessed whether established medical standards were consistently followed.

According to a police officer involved in the investigation, "The report pointed out serious lapses in treatment and suggested that proper, timely medical intervention could have prevented the deaths."

While the woman's husband passed away in the preceding year, the legal proceedings related to the case have continued. On Tuesday, the Kasarvadavli police summoned the deceased woman's father to share the findings of the investigation and the subsequent criminal case filing. This development marks a significant step in the pursuit of accountability related to this tragic incident.
