Meerut, Uttar Pradesh — Barely a month after the gruesome murder of 29-year-old Merchant Navy officer Saurabh Rajput, whose dismembered body was found stuffed in a blue drum, Meerut has witnessed another chilling case of domestic betrayal and calculated murder.
Amit Kashyap, 25, also known as Mickey, was found dead in his bed on Sunday morning in Akbarpur Sadat village, located in the Behsuma region of Meerut. A viper snake was discovered near the body, initially raising suspicions of a snakebite-related death.
However, a deeper investigation led by Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rakesh Kumar Mishra revealed a far more sinister plot. According to police officials, Amit's wife, Ravita, was involved in an extramarital affair with Amardeep—a close friend of her husband. When Amit discovered the relationship, it led to ongoing domestic disputes.
Seeking to eliminate her husband and avoid detection, Ravita hatched an elaborate plan with Amardeep. She allegedly purchased a venomous snake for ₹1,000, strangled her husband, and then placed the snake beneath his body in a bid to mislead authorities into concluding the death was caused by snakebite.
While initial reports suggested multiple snake bites—up to ten—the post-mortem examination concluded that the actual cause of death was strangulation. Forensic inconsistencies raised red flags, prompting police to intensify their interrogation.
Under sustained questioning, both Ravita and Amardeep confessed to their involvement in the crime. Investigators believe the snake, trapped beneath the lifeless body, bit Amit posthumously, adding to the initial confusion.
Key Developments:
-
The murder was driven by an extramarital affair and marital discord.
-
Strangulation, not snakebite, was the confirmed cause of death.
-
The accused attempted to fabricate the cause of death using a live viper as a cover-up.
The case, bearing stark parallels to other recent incidents in the region, has once again highlighted the dark extremes of domestic conflict and deception.
