Former Anantnag Student Linked to Pahalgam Terror Attack

SRINAGAR: Adil Hussain Thokar, once regarded as a promising and studious youth from Anantnag, has now emerged as a prime suspect in the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 tourists. Authorities allege that Thokar, who had been pursuing a master's degree through Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) after graduating from Government Degree College, Khanabal, played a central role in orchestrating the assault.

According to intelligence reports, Thokar traveled to Pakistan on a study visa, where he is believed to have been radicalized and drawn into anti-national activities. His re-entry into India allegedly culminated in the planning and execution of the Pahalgam attack. A substantial reward has been announced for information leading to his arrest.

Local residents and Thokar’s family maintain that he has been missing since April 29, 2018, when he reportedly left for Badgam to appear for a competitive examination. "He wasn't very social but focused on his studies," recalled Hafeez, a neighbor. Another local, Gazi, described him as "quiet, decent, and studious."

At the time of his disappearance, Thokar was also working part-time as a teacher while preparing for civil service exams. Despite the family's insistence that they had no contact with him after 2018, security agencies assert that Thokar's journey to Pakistan and subsequent radicalization were confirmed through intelligence sources.

The case of Adil Hussain Thokar underscores the complex challenges facing the region, where stories of lost potential are increasingly intertwined with rising security threats.
