Government Convenes High-Level All-Party Meeting Following Pahalgam Terror Attack

New Delhi, April 24 – In the aftermath of the devastating terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that claimed 26 civilian lives, the Government of India will convene an all-party meeting today at 6 PM at the Parliament Annexe. The move comes amid growing national outrage and calls for a united political front to confront terrorism.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is expected to chair the meeting, which will be attended by one senior leader from each invited political party. Sources told news agency PTI that both Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah have personally reached out to key opposition leaders to ensure their participation in the deliberations. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has also been involved in coordinating invitations.

The agenda of the meeting includes a detailed briefing by Singh on the circumstances of the April 22 terror attack, which targeted a group of tourists in the Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam, making it one of the deadliest civilian attacks in recent years.

According to officials familiar with the developments, invitations were extended to major national and regional parties, while smaller parties were not included in this round of consultations.

Parties Confirmed to Attend

As of now, the following parties have confirmed their participation:

  • DMK – Tiruchi Siva

  • TMC – Sudip Bandyopadhyay

  • TDP – Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu

  • Shiv Sena – Shrikant Shinde

  • RJD – A.D. Singh / Manoj Jha

The full list of attendees is still being finalised, with additional confirmations expected through the day.

JDU Declines Invitation

The Janata Dal (United), in an official statement, announced that it would not be attending the meeting. According to party Working President Sanjay Kumar Jha, all senior leaders are currently engaged in the Prime Minister’s ongoing program in Madhubani, Bihar.

“Whatever decision is taken at the meeting, JDU will support the Government in the interest of the nation,” Jha stated.

Prime Minister Chairs Cabinet Committee on Security

This evening's all-party meeting follows a high-level review chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday night. The Cabinet Committee on Security convened at the Prime Minister’s official residence on Lok Nayak Marg, where Home Minister Amit Shah provided a comprehensive briefing on the Pahalgam attack and the ongoing security response.

The closed-door session, which lasted for over two and a half hours, focused on both immediate counterterrorism measures and long-term strategies to safeguard civilian lives in vulnerable regions.

Today’s all-party meeting is seen as a crucial step toward fostering political consensus in the wake of national tragedy, as the country grapples with the implications of one of the most horrific attacks in recent memory.
