Pakistan Army Violates Ceasefire in Poonch; Indian Troops Respond with Controlled Retaliation

New Delhi: In a serious breach of the ceasefire agreement, the Pakistan Army intruded into Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Tuesday, prompting a swift and calibrated response from Indian forces.

The ceasefire violation occurred at 1:10 PM in the Krishna Ghati sector, where the Nangi Tekri Battalion, operating under the Krishna Ghati Brigade, responded decisively to the unprovoked attack, according to an Indian Army official familiar with the situation.

"On April 1, 2025, a mine blast occurred in the Krishna Ghati Sector due to Pakistan Army intrusion across the Line of Control (LoC). This was followed by unprovoked firing and a ceasefire violation by the Pakistan Army. Our troops responded effectively in a controlled and calibrated manner. The situation is under control and being closely monitored," the official said.

The Indian Army reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace along the LoC, emphasizing "the importance of upholding the tenets of the 2021 DGsMO understanding."

Rare Ceasefire Violation Amid Heightened Tensions

Ceasefire violations along the Jammu and Kashmir border have been infrequent since India and Pakistan reaffirmed their ceasefire agreement on February 25, 2021. However, this latest incident comes at a time of heightened security concerns in the region.

Security Operations in Kathua Following Terrorist Encounter

Meanwhile, in Kathua's Panjtirthi area, security forces have intensified counter-terror operations following an encounter with militants on March 31. The Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF launched a joint operation after detecting suspicious movement in the area, which led to an exchange of fire in the early hours of April 1.

In response, security forces initiated a search-and-destroy operation at first light, setting up surveillance and ambush points based on intelligence inputs. Authorities remain on high alert, with the situation being closely monitored.

As tensions persist along the LoC and within Jammu and Kashmir, security forces continue their vigilance to prevent further escalations.
