New Delhi, April 29, 2025, – Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level security meeting at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, on Tuesday to address escalating tensions with Pakistan following the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, last week. The assault, which claimed 26 lives—including one Nepalese national—at Baisaran meadow, ranks among the deadliest in the Kashmir Valley in recent years and has drawn widespread condemnation.
The meeting, held ahead of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) session scheduled for Wednesday, saw the attendance of key defense and security officials, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Services General Anil Chauhan, Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, and Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi. The discussions focused on formulating a robust response to the attack, which primarily targeted Hindu civilians, amid growing concerns over cross-border terrorism.
This marks the second high-level meeting chaired by PM Modi since his return from a curtailed visit to Saudi Arabia on April 23, following an earlier CCS session that evening. Speaking at a public event in Bihar on April 24, the Prime Minister vowed to pursue the perpetrators and their supporters—implicitly pointing to Pakistan, long accused of sponsoring terror activities in India—promising to track them “to the ends of the earth” and deliver the harshest punishment.
Earlier on Tuesday, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan led a separate high-level meeting, attended by the heads of three paramilitary forces and senior officers from two additional security organizations, according to sources cited by PTI. The attendees included Director General of the Border Security Force Daljit Singh Chaudhary, Director General of the National Security Guard Brighu Srinivasan, Director General of the Assam Rifles Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, and Additional Director General of the Sashastra Seema Bal Anupama Nilekar Chandra. These forces play critical roles in securing India’s borders with Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and Myanmar, while the NSG specializes in anti-terror operations.
The meetings underscore the government’s resolve to enhance national security and deliver a decisive response to the Pahalgam attack, as India navigates heightened regional tensions and the persistent threat of terrorism.
