New Delhi, April 2, 2025 – Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday lauded the passage of the Tribhuvan Sahkari University Bill 2025 in Parliament, describing it as a “historic day” for the cooperative sector. The bill aims to integrate cooperative education into the Indian curriculum, fostering a more structured and modern approach to the sector.
“With this university, trained youth from across the country will contribute to making the cooperative sector more comprehensive, well-organized, and aligned with contemporary needs,” Shah, who also serves as the Cooperation Minister, stated in a post on X.
The legislation was passed in the Lok Sabha on March 26 and subsequently cleared in the Rajya Sabha through a voice vote on Tuesday, following a debate involving 28 members.
“I extend my congratulations to all Members of Parliament for their role in this significant achievement, which represents a confluence of cooperation, innovation, and employment,” Shah added.
The proposed Tribhuvan Sahkari University, to be established in Anand, Gujarat, is named after Tribhuvandas Kishibhai Patel, a key figure in India’s cooperative movement and a founding force behind Amul. The university is set to play a pivotal role in developing skilled manpower for cooperative societies, with a projected capacity to train 800,000 individuals annually.
The bill’s approval marks a crucial step in strengthening the cooperative ecosystem, ensuring the sector remains an integral part of India’s economic and educational landscape.
