Agra | April 23, 2025 — United States Vice President JD Vance, accompanied by his wife Usha and their three children, visited the iconic Taj Mahal on Wednesday as part of a four-day official tour of India. The visit, marked by elaborate arrangements and cultural pageantry, highlighted the deepening ties between the two nations.
Arriving in Agra from Jaipur earlier in the day, the Vice President and his family were warmly received at the airport by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who presented them with flowers as a traditional gesture of welcome.
Taking to social media, the Chief Minister wrote:
A warm welcome to Hon’ble U.S. Vice President Mr. JD Vance and his family to Uttar Pradesh, the sacred heartland of India, renowned for its timeless devotion, vibrant culture, and spiritual legacy.
The Vice President's motorcade to the Taj Mahal passed through a specially curated 12-kilometre route adorned with rangolis, sand art, and cultural displays. Schoolchildren lined the roads waving Indian and American flags, while prominent welcome hoardings extended greetings to the dignitaries.
Upon touring the monument, Vice President Vance penned a note in the visitors’ diary, stating:
"The Taj Mahal is amazing. A testament to true love, human ingenuity, and a tribute to the great country of India."
The Vance family, including sons Ewan and Vivek and daughter Mirabel, spent approximately an hour at the heritage site before departing for the airport. Strict security arrangements were in place throughout the visit, with American and Indian security agencies securing the area well in advance. The stretch from the airport to the Taj Mahal was designated a zero-traffic zone to ensure seamless movement.
The Agra visit followed earlier engagements in New Delhi, where the Vance family toured the Akshardham Temple on Monday and held a courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his official residence.
Vice President Vance’s visit is seen as a significant diplomatic gesture underscoring the continued strategic and cultural collaboration between India and the United States.
