Mumbai – In a move to accommodate the surge in passenger demand during the summer season, Western Railway has announced the operation of a Superfast Tejas Special Train on a special fare between Mumbai Central and Rajkot. The initiative, aimed at enhancing travel convenience, will see Train No. 09005/09006 Mumbai Central-Rajkot Superfast Special operating 34 trips from April 21 to May 29, 2025.
Train Schedule and Operations
Train No. 09005 Mumbai Central-Rajkot Superfast Special will depart from Mumbai Central every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 11:20 p.m., arriving at Rajkot at 11:45 a.m. the following day. This service will commence on April 21 and continue until May 28, 2025.
In the return direction, Train No. 09006 Rajkot-Mumbai Central Superfast Special will leave Rajkot every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 6:30 p.m., reaching Mumbai Central at 7:30 a.m. the next day. This train will operate from April 22 to May 29, 2025.
The train will make stops at key stations in both directions, including Borivali, Vapi, Surat, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, Viramgam, Surendranagar, and Wankaner. The route connects major urban and industrial hubs, facilitating travel for both leisure and business passengers during the peak summer period.
Coach Composition and Amenities
The Superfast Tejas Special Train will feature a modern configuration to ensure passenger comfort. The train comprises First AC, AC 2-Tier, and AC 3-Tier coaches, catering to a range of travel preferences. The inclusion of air-conditioned coaches aligns with the Tejas brand’s emphasis on premium services, offering a comfortable journey for passengers traveling the approximately 12-hour route.
Addressing Seasonal Demand
The introduction of the special train comes as part of Western Railway’s efforts to manage the increased travel demand during the summer months, when families and tourists frequently travel for vacations and festivals. Mumbai Central, a major rail hub, and Rajkot, a key commercial and cultural center in Gujarat, are expected to see significant passenger traffic, making the additional service a timely response to commuter needs.
Western Railway’s decision reflects a broader strategy to enhance connectivity and passenger convenience during high-demand periods. Similar special trains have been introduced in previous years, earning praise for alleviating overcrowding and providing reliable travel options.
Booking and Passenger Information
Western Railway has advised passengers to book tickets early, as demand for the special train is expected to be high. Reservations can be made through the Indian Railways’ online portal, mobile app, or at designated booking counters. Passengers are encouraged to check the official Western Railway website or social media channels for updates on ticket availability and any schedule changes.
The special fare structure, while not detailed in the announcement, is expected to reflect the premium nature of the Tejas service, with pricing aligned to the train’s AC-only configuration and superfast status.
