Bengaluru, May 21 – The body of an unidentified minor girl, estimated to be between eight and ten years old, was discovered stuffed inside a suitcase abandoned near a railway bridge on the outskirts of Bengaluru on Wednesday.
The suitcase, a torn blue piece of luggage, was found near the Old Chandapura Railway Bridge close to Hosur Main Road in Anekal Taluk. Authorities suspect the suitcase may have been discarded from a moving train.
“It appears the suitcase was thrown from railway property, likely from a moving train. Normally, such cases fall under railway police jurisdiction, but since it relates to our area, we are involved. The victim’s identity is yet to be confirmed as there was no ID or belongings found,” said CK Baba, Superintendent of Police, Bengaluru Rural, as quoted by India Today.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from the vicinity and are coordinating with railway officials to track train movements during the estimated time frame of the incident. A comprehensive investigation is currently underway to establish the identity of the girl and the events that led to her death.
The case echoes other recent tragedies in the region. On May 12, the body of a 14-year-old tribal girl, who was deaf and mute, was found near railway tracks in Karnataka’s Ramanagara district. Following the discovery, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar assured the public of a thorough investigation. “It is our duty to ensure justice—whether it’s a case of vengeance, abuse, or anything else,” he stated after meeting the victim’s family.
In another disturbing incident in March, the body of a 32-year-old woman, Gauri Anil Sambekar, was discovered inside a suitcase in a residence in Bengaluru’s Hulimavu area. Her husband, Rakesh Sambekar, was later arrested in Pune after reportedly confessing the crime to her parents.
Authorities have not ruled out any possibilities in the current case, and the investigation remains ongoing.
