India Accuses Pakistan of Violating Fresh Ceasefire Agreement Within Hours

New Delhi, – India on Saturday night accused Pakistan of breaching the ceasefire agreement that had been mutually reaffirmed by both nations’ military leadership just hours earlier.

In a late-night media briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that Pakistan violated the understanding reached between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both countries earlier in the day.

“For the past several hours, there have been repeated violations of the ceasefire understanding established this evening,” Misri said. “Our armed forces are responding with adequate and proportionate measures. These violations are being treated with utmost seriousness.”

The Foreign Secretary further confirmed that Indian armed forces have been given a free hand to respond to any future provocations along both the International Border and the Line of Control (LoC).

“We call upon Pakistan to take credible and responsible steps to prevent further violations and address the situation with the seriousness it demands,” Misri added, emphasizing that Indian forces remain vigilant and are closely monitoring developments.

In contrast, the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a late-night statement, accused India of initiating the ceasefire violations—claims that Indian officials strongly refuted. The Pakistani statement also claimed that its armed forces had been instructed to exercise restraint, a claim analysts interpret as evidence of the Pakistani military’s influence over the civilian government.

Misri’s remarks came in the wake of multiple incidents of cross-border shelling, firing, and drone intrusions across several districts in Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, and Gujarat. In response, Indian security forces activated air defence systems to intercept the hostile drones.

In Srinagar, residents reported witnessing air defence activity over the Batwara area near a key military installation, where a drone was successfully neutralized. Officials confirmed that similar engagements were recorded across the Kashmir Valley.

Drone activity was particularly intense in areas such as Baramulla, where an unmanned aerial vehicle was downed around 8:20 p.m. Additional drone intrusions were reported in Anantnag—particularly near high-security zones in Verinag and Bandipora—as well as in Safapora.

While there were no reports of shelling along the LoC in Kashmir, several explosions were heard late Saturday night in Jammu and Udhampur districts following suspected drone intrusions. Authorities in Jammu sounded air raid sirens amid reports of blasts and temporary power outages.

Meanwhile, sporadic instances of mortar shelling and small arms fire were reported along the International Border and LoC sectors in RS Pura, Akhnoor, and Nowshera in Rajouri district.
