India-Pakistan DGMO Talks Not Scheduled for May 18; Ceasefire Understanding Remains in Effect

New Delhi, May 18, 2025 — The Indian Army has confirmed that no Director General of Military Operations (DGMO)-level talks are scheduled between India and Pakistan today. However, the ceasefire agreement reached during the DGMO interaction held on May 12 remains fully in effect, with no specified end date.

“There are no DGMO talks scheduled for today. As far as the continuation of the break in hostilities, as decided during the May 12 interaction, there is no expiry date to it,” Army officials stated in response to inquiries from CNN-News18.

The reaffirmation of the ceasefire understanding comes amid heightened tensions following the deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, a series of precision strikes targeting nine identified terror infrastructure sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

The DGMO-level meeting on May 12 followed intense cross-border hostilities that spanned four days. During the dialogue, both sides committed to maintaining restraint and avoiding any form of aggressive or hostile military action along the border.

“Talks between DGMOs of India and Pakistan were held at 5 PM on May 12, 2025. The focus was on reaffirming the commitment that neither side would fire a single shot or initiate any aggressive or inimical action against the other,” said a senior Indian Army spokesperson.

The DGMO holds a key role in coordinating border management and military planning, particularly during periods of heightened tension between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.

Notably, the renewed ceasefire understanding was initiated on May 10 when the Pakistani DGMO placed a call to his Indian counterpart, Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai. While the move was initially welcomed, the ceasefire was breached within hours as Pakistani forces reportedly fired along the International Border and Line of Control (LoC) at multiple locations, including areas near Srinagar and sectors in Punjab and Rajasthan.

India responded with a measured but firm military retaliation and issued a clear warning to Pakistan against any further violations of the truce.

As of now, both countries appear committed to de-escalation, but the situation along the border remains under close surveillance. The Indian Armed Forces have reiterated their readiness to uphold peace while reserving the right to respond decisively to any future provocations.
