New Delhi | May 25, 2025 — In a firm reiteration of India’s national security stance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted the country’s unwavering resolve to combat terrorism, applauding the Indian Armed Forces for their precision strikes across the border under Operation Sindoor.
Addressing the nation during the 122nd episode of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat—his first following the successful execution of Operation Sindoor—the Prime Minister expressed both the nation’s grief and its resolve.
"Today, the entire country stands united against terrorism—filled with sorrow and anger, but also with firm determination. Every Indian is resolved to eliminate terrorism," he stated.
Lauding the operation’s effectiveness, he continued, “The precision with which our forces neutralised terrorist hideouts across the border is truly commendable. Operation Sindoor is more than a military operation—it is a symbol of India’s determination, bravery, and evolving strategic capability. This mission has ignited patriotic fervour throughout the nation and painted it in the vibrant hues of the tricolour.”
Prime Minister Modi also acknowledged the spontaneous public response to the operation, noting the numerous Tiranga Yatras held nationwide. He cited widely shared visuals from Chandigarh—where children were seen painting patriotic scenes and newborns were being named after ‘Sindoor’—as examples of the deep emotional resonance the mission had evoked.
The military operation was launched in direct response to the deadly April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, where gunmen opened fire on tourists, resulting in the tragic loss of at least 26 lives. It was the deadliest such attack in the region since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
On May 7, India initiated Operation Sindoor, targeting and eliminating nine terror infrastructure sites located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Following retaliatory measures from the Pakistan Army, Indian forces escalated the operation by striking strategic military installations, including the Nur Khan Air Base, using advanced loitering munitions with surgical precision.
During the previous Mann Ki Baat episode on May 27, Prime Minister Modi had assured the nation that the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack would face the harshest consequences. "Justice will be delivered to the victims and their families," he had declared, vowing uncompromising action against terrorists and their backers.
He further remarked on the rapid development and renewed optimism in Kashmir, noting a surge in tourism and youth engagement. The Pahalgam attack, he emphasized, was a desperate attempt by hostile forces to disrupt this progress.
“In spite of these challenges, our resolve remains firm. The enemies of peace and progress will not succeed,” the Prime Minister affirmed.
