PM Modi Hails National Unity and ‘Vocal for Local’ Surge After Operation Sindoor

New Delhi | May 25, 2025 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the 122nd edition of his monthly radio broadcast Mann Ki Baat, reflected on the resounding national impact of Operation Sindoor, a decisive military campaign launched in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 civilian lives.

During his address, Prime Minister Modi lauded the operational precision of the Indian Armed Forces and noted the extensive deployment of domestically produced weaponry in the mission—underscoring India’s growing defence self-reliance. He further highlighted a sweeping wave of patriotic sentiment that has since gripped the nation, manifesting in tangible support for the ‘vocal for local’ initiative.

“In the wake of this campaign, a renewed enthusiasm for indigenous products and destinations is clearly visible,” the Prime Minister remarked. “Several families have pledged to spend their vacations within India, celebrating the beauty and heritage of our own land. Many young citizens are now choosing to marry within the country, giving rise to a growing ‘Wed in India’ sentiment.”

The Prime Minister’s remarks come amid widespread public anger over Turkey’s stance following the Pahalgam massacre. Turkey had openly criticised Operation Sindoor and extended support to Pakistan by supplying drones, some of which were reportedly deployed in cross-border strikes targeting Indian civilian areas and military sites. This move triggered a surge of boycott calls across India, particularly against Turkish tourism and goods.

Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, involved precision airstrikes on nine terrorist camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The operation, which resulted in the elimination of over 170 terrorists, marked one of the most assertive military responses by India in recent years. Indian forces also neutralized 11 Pakistani airbases that were part of Pakistan’s retaliatory operations, significantly degrading the adversary’s offensive capabilities.

In response to the escalation, Pakistan launched multiple ballistic missiles aimed at Indian targets—attempts that were thwarted by India’s advanced air defence systems, including the S-400 and Akash platforms.

Speaking on the operation, Prime Minister Modi praised the Armed Forces for their exceptional execution. “The precision and discipline with which our forces destroyed terror infrastructure across the border is exemplary. Operation Sindoor is more than a military mission—it is a reflection of a bold, courageous, and rising India. It has infused the nation with pride and reaffirmed our collective will to root out terrorism.”

He reiterated the nation’s firm resolve, stating, “Today, India stands united against terrorism. This is a moment of determination for every citizen. The resolve to eliminate terror is stronger than ever.”

The Prime Minister also confirmed that following the massive setback dealt to its military assets, Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) reached out to India on May 10 to seek a ceasefire. While an understanding was reached to halt operations, India issued a clear and uncompromising warning: any future terror attack emanating from Pakistani soil will be treated as an “act of war.”

The unfolding of Operation Sindoor—both in its strategic execution and its broader social impact—marks a pivotal moment in India’s internal and external security doctrine. It also reflects the deepening commitment of the Indian public to stand in solidarity with national interests, across sectors from tourism to consumer choices.
