Tehran | May 28, 2025 — The Embassy of India in Tehran has confirmed that it is actively engaged with Iranian authorities following reports of three Indian nationals going missing in Iran. The matter came to light after the individuals’ families alerted the Embassy earlier this week.
In an official statement shared on social media platform X, the Embassy stated:
“Family members of three Indian citizens have informed the Embassy of India that their relatives are missing after having travelled to Iran. The Embassy has strongly taken up this matter with the Iranian authorities and requested that the missing Indians should be urgently traced and their safety ensured. We are also keeping the family members regularly updated on the efforts being made by the Embassy.”
While the statement did not disclose further details regarding the individuals’ identities or circumstances of their disappearance, media reports have since identified the missing persons as three young men from Punjab: Hushanpreet Singh from Sangrur, Jaspal Singh from SBS Nagar, and Amritpal Singh from Hoshiarpur. According to NDTV, all three reportedly went missing on May 1, shortly after arriving in Tehran.
The Indian diplomatic mission has refrained from commenting on the nature of the travel or possible reasons for the disappearance, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation. Iranian authorities have yet to release any official statement in response.
The incident has raised concerns among the Indian community abroad and underscores the importance of maintaining regular contact with local authorities while traveling in foreign jurisdictions. The Embassy has assured the affected families of continued support and diplomatic intervention until the matter is resolved.
Further developments are awaited as the search operation continues.
