Authorities have launched an investigation following a collision between a train and a car at a level crossing near Nenagh, Co Tipperary, on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred shortly after 10:00am at a user-operated field crossing in the townland of Carrow. According to Irish Rail, the train—operating the 09:00 Ballybrophy to Limerick service via Nenagh—was travelling within the designated speed limit of 50km/h (30mph) at the time of impact.
Two individuals were inside the car when the collision occurred. Initial reports suggest both occupants are in shock but did not sustain serious injuries. Emergency services, including Gardaà and medical personnel, were quickly dispatched to the scene and remain in attendance.
An Irish Rail spokesperson confirmed the details in a statement:
"There were 16 passengers on board the train, along with the driver and a ticket checker. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported among passengers or staff. A bus is being arranged to transport customers to their onward destinations."
Irish Rail has notified the Department of Transport and the Railway Accident Investigation Unit, which will now examine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Updates on service disruptions and evening travel arrangements are expected later today.
Gardaà also confirmed their response, stating:
"An Garda SÃochána and emergency services are attending a traffic incident that occurred on the train line at Capparoe, Co. Tipperary at approximately 10:10am. There are no reports of serious injuries at this time."
