Convicted murderer Richard Satchwell remains entirely isolated behind bars, with no visits from family or friends since his arrest in October 2023 for the brutal killing of his wife, Tina Satchwell. The 58-year-old, originally from Leicester, England, has received no personal support—either during his trial or while in custody—with only his legal representatives having met him in prison.
Satchwell, a former truck driver who had settled in Youghal, County Cork, was disowned by the small circle of acquaintances and relatives he once had. He spent over 18 months on remand in Limerick Prison before being transferred to Wheatfield Prison for the duration of his five-week trial.
Following his conviction on Friday, Satchwell was returned to Wheatfield and is expected to remain there until he is formally handed the mandatory life sentence in the coming weeks. Sources indicate that he will then be transferred to Mountjoy Prison for one night before being moved—likely back to Limerick Prison—to serve his sentence, which is expected to span a minimum of 20 years.
Despite the severity of his crime, Satchwell is described by prison staff as a compliant and reserved inmate. “He was a model prisoner in Limerick—courteous, polite, the image of a middle-class Englishman,” one prison source noted. “He never raised his voice and got on reasonably well with others, though he largely kept to himself.”
Prison officials also remarked on the complete absence of personal visitors. “In most cases, you’d expect at least one family member to come forward. But for him, not a single relative has made contact. It seems he has been completely cut off by the outside world,” a source said.
Following the revelation that he had concealed the murder of his wife for nearly a decade, Satchwell’s isolation has not come as a surprise to authorities. His late wife’s family is expected to deliver victim impact statements ahead of sentencing, underscoring the devastating emotional toll of the crime.
With formal sentencing pending, Satchwell is set to begin a lengthy life term in prison—one he will likely serve in solitude.
