Drogheda Man Denied Bail Over Firearms, Drugs, and Money Laundering Allegations

Drogheda | June 4, 2025 — A 28-year-old man from Drogheda, Co Louth, has been remanded in custody after appearing in Dundalk District Court on serious charges relating to firearms, drugs, and alleged money laundering activity exceeding €200,000.

Sean McGlone, of Beechwood Drive, was brought before Judge Gerry Jones on Wednesday following his arrest on Monday, June 2. He faces multiple charges, including possession of a 9mm semi-automatic pistol loaded with six live rounds and an additional five rounds of ammunition discovered at his residence.

Mr. McGlone is also charged with possession of €4,200 worth of cocaine and €480 of cannabis, both for personal use and for sale or supply. In addition, he faces a money laundering charge involving over €200,000 allegedly laundered through his Revolut account.

Detective Garda Dean Hyland, of Drogheda Garda Station, outlined the circumstances of the arrest and the evidence recovered during a search conducted by the Divisional Drugs Unit. The search targeted a cabin situated behind the accused’s mother’s home, where McGlone was reportedly the sole occupant.

During the operation, officers allegedly uncovered cocaine, cannabis, drug packaging equipment including a vacuum sealer and plastic bags, and a loaded pistol concealed within a lunchbox hidden inside a black bag outside the cabin. Two mobile phones and approximately €3,000 in cash were also recovered from beneath a mattress inside the cabin.

Det Gda Hyland told the court that the accused was arrested under Section 72 of the Criminal Justice Act, relating to participation in the activities of a criminal organisation. He stated that McGlone underwent five interviews, during which he claimed the drugs were for personal use and denied any knowledge of the firearm. However, he refused to cooperate regarding the alleged financial offences and declined to provide access to his mobile devices.

The Gardaí indicated that further charges are likely to be brought.

Opposing bail, Det Gda Hyland cited the seriousness of the offences and described McGlone as a flight risk. Defence solicitor Sean Allen argued that his client has strong ties to the local community and would comply with any bail conditions set by the court.

Judge Jones rejected the bail application, stating: “He was caught red-handed, as far as I am concerned, and was present when both the firearm and drugs were discovered.”

The accused, who appeared in court dressed in a black hoodie and jeans, remained silent throughout the proceedings. He has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to reappear before Drogheda District Court on Monday, June 9.
