Noida, June 3 — A social media dispute took a deadly turn in Noida’s Sector 53, where a man was allegedly mowed down by the driver of a Mahindra Thar SUV following a confrontation over an Instagram comment. The incident, captured on video and widely circulated on social media, has sparked public outrage and renewed concerns over safety and rising digital-age altercations escalating into violence.
According to law enforcement officials, the confrontation stemmed from an online exchange between two individuals who were reportedly known to each other. The verbal disagreement over Instagram posts escalated into a physical altercation on the streets, culminating in a fatal hit-and-run.
Speaking to the media, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida), Sumit Kumar Shukla, confirmed that the clash began with a disagreement on Instagram and subsequently turned violent in a public area. Eyewitnesses stated that during the heated exchange, the driver of the SUV allegedly accelerated the vehicle intentionally, striking the victim from behind and hurling him into a roadside drain before fleeing the scene. A First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged at Sector 24 Police Station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including those related to rash driving, criminal intimidation, and voluntarily causing hurt.
Authorities have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to apprehend the accused, who remains at large. The SIT is currently reviewing video footage, witness statements, and digital evidence to track down the suspect.
