New Delhi, June 7 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirmed his participation in the upcoming G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, following what he described as a “warm” conversation with newly elected Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Taking to social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi shared, “Glad to receive a call from Prime Minister @MarkJCarney of Canada. Congratulated him on his recent election victory and thanked him for the invitation to the G7 Summit in Kananaskis later this month.”
Reaffirming India’s commitment to bilateral cooperation, PM Modi added, “India and Canada, as vibrant democracies bound by deep people-to-people ties, will work together with renewed vigour, guided by mutual respect and shared interests.” He noted that he was looking forward to meeting Prime Minister Carney at the summit.
Mark Carney, a former governor of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, as well as a prominent advocate for climate finance, recently assumed office as Canada’s Prime Minister after leading the Liberal Party to victory in the general election.
The 51st G7 Summit, scheduled from June 15 to 17 in Kananaskis, marks the second time the town in Alberta will host the prestigious global gathering — the first being in 2002. The summit carries additional significance this year, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the G7, a coalition of the world's most advanced economies: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, with the European Union also participating.
Under Prime Minister Carney’s leadership, the summit will address a broad range of critical global challenges, including peace and security, economic resilience, climate action, and digital transformation.
Apart from India, this year’s guest nations include Australia, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, and Ukraine, reflecting the G7’s growing emphasis on inclusive global dialogue.
