Four Dead, Including NYPD Officer, in Manhattan Skyscraper Shooting; Gunman Neutralised

New York City, July 29 – A deadly shooting rocked Midtown Manhattan on Monday evening (local time), leaving at least four people dead, including a New York Police Department (NYPD) officer. The gunman was later shot and killed in a police operation, officials confirmed.

The incident unfolded inside a high-rise building near Park Avenue and East 51st Street, home to several prominent corporate offices, including the NFL headquarters and financial powerhouse Blackstone. The skyscraper also houses the offices of major firms like Colgate-Palmolive and KPMG, and sits in a zone dotted with five-star business hotels.

Authorities identified the suspect as 27-year-old Shane Tamura of Nevada, according to sources briefed on the investigation who spoke to the Associated Press.

Emergency services responded swiftly after receiving a call around 6:30 PM. A heavy police presence was visible across the area, with ambulances rushing to the scene and helicopters hovering above as the situation unfolded.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams addressed the public via a video message posted on X (formerly Twitter), confirming multiple injuries and offering his "deepest sympathies" to the family of the fallen officer.

“This is a tragic day for New York,” said Mayor Adams. “We have lost a brave officer, and several others have been injured in a senseless act of violence.”

Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch also confirmed via X that the scene had been fully secured. “At this time, the scene has been contained and the lone shooter has been neutralised,” she stated.

Earlier, the NYPD had issued a public advisory warning residents and officegoers to stay indoors and avoid the area. "There is an active shooter investigation taking place in Midtown right now. Please take proper safety precautions if you are in the vicinity," read the alert.

As of late Monday night, authorities had not released further details about the motive behind the attack or the identities of the other victims. Investigations are ongoing.
