New Delhi, July 28 — Proceedings in the Lok Sabha were disrupted on Day 6 of the Monsoon Session as the much-anticipated debate on Operation Sindoor faced delays due to continuous uproar from the Opposition benches. Speaker Om Birla was forced to adjourn the House until 1:00 PM after repeated interruptions.
The debate, originally scheduled to begin at 12 noon with an address by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, was stalled amid loud protests and sloganeering from the Opposition, leading to back-to-back adjournments.
In a sharp rebuke to the protesting members, Speaker Birla said,
“If you want to discuss Operation Sindoor, then return to your seats. You all had sought a discussion on it, now you come to the well of the House, is it good? Do you want the debate or not? If yes, then return to your seats.”
The Operation Sindoor debate is expected to take centre stage during Monday’s proceedings, with the Opposition pressing the government for answers on India’s cross-border operation conducted from May 7 to 10, following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 civilian lives.
The government will be represented in the debate by senior ministers, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Anurag Thakur, and Nishikant Dubey. On the Opposition side, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi will open the debate.
The Rajya Sabha will hold its discussion on the matter on Tuesday, July 29, as both Houses of Parliament are set to conduct a combined 32-hour debate on the issue, which is rapidly emerging as one of the focal points of the Monsoon Session.
