Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday reiterated the government's firm stance on illegal immigration, asserting that individuals who are not Indian citizens and have entered the country unlawfully will face legal consequences in accordance with the Constitution.
Speaking at a public rally in Durgapur, West Bengal, the Prime Minister stated, "Let me say this clearly from the land of Durgapur — anyone who is not a citizen of India, anyone who has entered the country illegally, legal action will continue against them as per the Constitution of India."
Underscoring the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) commitment to constitutional integrity, the Prime Minister invoked the vision of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee, particularly the principle of “One Nation, One Constitution.” He emphasized that this vision has not only been embraced by the BJP but also successfully implemented, reinforcing the party’s dedication to national unity and constitutional governance.
Highlighting cultural pride, Modi added, “For the BJP, the Bengali language is a symbol of inspiration, tradition, and identity. Bengali pride is paramount for us.” He further stated that in every BJP-governed state, the Bengali language and the people of West Bengal are given the highest regard.
However, the Prime Minister strongly criticized the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), accusing it of compromising West Bengal’s identity for political gain. “What is happening here in West Bengal? TMC, driven by its selfish interests, has put the identity of West Bengal at stake,” he remarked.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi launched a series of development projects worth ₹5,400 crore aimed at strengthening infrastructure, connectivity, and clean energy in the state. The initiatives span key sectors including oil and gas, power, railways, and road transport.
Among the highlights was the laying of the foundation stone for Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited’s ₹1,950-crore City Gas Distribution project in Bankura and Purulia districts. The project is designed to supply piped natural gas (PNG) to residential and industrial consumers and compressed natural gas (CNG) at fueling stations, thereby fostering local employment and sustainable energy access.
The Prime Minister also dedicated to the nation the ₹1,190-crore Durgapur–Kolkata section of the Durgapur–Haldia Natural Gas Pipeline. Constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga (PMUG) scheme, this 132-kilometre pipeline traverses the districts of Purba Bardhaman, Hooghly, and Nadia, and is expected to benefit lakhs of people with a dependable and environmentally friendly natural gas supply.
