Dublin: Gardaà are questioning a convicted criminal after three patrol cars were rammed during a high-speed pursuit in west Dublin late Tuesday night.
The incident unfolded in the Blanchardstown area when officers observed a vehicle being driven dangerously and attempted to stop it. The driver failed to comply, prompting a chase. A Stinger device was deployed to puncture several of the car’s tyres, but the suspect continued to flee, ramming three Garda vehicles before officers brought the pursuit to a safe conclusion and prevented the car from entering the N3 in the wrong direction.
The driver, a man in his 30s from the Blanchardstown area, was arrested and is being held at a local Garda station. Sources confirmed he is a convicted criminal. Gardaà said investigations are ongoing.
Chief Superintendent Michael McNulty of Blanchardstown Garda Station commended the bravery and professionalism of the officers involved.
“Protecting public safety and delivering good policing outcomes requires a combination of skill, quick thinking and fearlessness,” he said. “The courage and teamwork of Garda members from Blanchardstown, Cabra and Finglas brought the incident to a safe conclusion, demonstrating their strong knowledge and expert training. This response shows Gardaà remain determined to protect the public and apprehend those who endanger our communities.”
