Greater Noida: The investigation into the horrific dowry death of 28-year-old Nikki has revealed that the prime accused, her husband Vipin Bhati, had previously been booked in 2024 for allegedly assaulting another woman, officials said on Tuesday.
According to police records, a woman named Preeti filed an FIR at Jarcha police station on October 20, 2024, accusing Vipin of assault and intimidation after Nikki had reportedly caught him with her. “He met me near Anandpur village and asked me to sit in his car. He snatched my phone, threatened me, and physically assaulted me. He even threatened to kill me,” Preeti stated in her complaint. The FIR also named another man, Tushar, who was allegedly present during the incident.
Allegations of Extramarital Affairs
Media reports suggest that Vipin had been confronted earlier by Nikki’s family members in Delhi after being seen with another woman. A video of that altercation, which went viral, showed him being thrashed on the road. Nikki’s sister, Kanchan—who is also married into the same family—alleged that Vipin was involved with multiple women and was once caught with another woman in Delhi’s Molarband. She added that Nikki had uncovered his extramarital affairs, leading to growing tensions between the couple in the days preceding her death.
The Murder Case
On August 21, Vipin allegedly set Nikki on fire at their home in Greater Noida after pressuring her over a dowry demand of ₹36 lakh. The incident occurred in front of Nikki’s young son and her sister Kanchan. Vipin, along with his father, mother, and brother, has since been arrested.
Family’s Plea for Justice
Nikki’s father, Bhikari Singh Payla, has appealed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to take strict action against the accused. “The Chief Minister should order bulldozer action on the houses of the accused—only then will my family get justice,” he told CNN-News18.
He also dismissed claims that Nikki’s presence on social media had caused domestic discord. “Everyone is active on social media—she was too. Even her mother-in-law used to post there,” he said.
Payla further revealed that he had helped his daughters establish a beauty salon to support themselves, but alleged that Nikki’s in-laws disapproved. “My daughter silently endured everything, despite all our efforts to help her,” he added.
