Chhattisgarh High Court Acquits Former MP State Salve Info Corporation Bill Assistant Jageshwar Prasad Avadiy in 100-Rupee Bribery Case After 39 Years

Raipur: After 39 years, the Chhattisgarh High Court has acquitted Jageshwar Prasad Avadiy, former Bill Assistant of the Madhya Pradesh State Salve Information Corporation, of all charges in a 100-rupee bribery case.

In 2004, a special court in Raipur had sentenced Avadiy to one year of imprisonment and a fine of ₹1,000. He had appealed the verdict and has now finally succeeded in overturning it.

According to case records, on October 24, 1986, Avadiy was accused of demanding a bribe of ₹100 and was arrested while allegedly accepting the money. However, during the appeal hearing, the court observed that the complainant’s testimony and documentary evidence did not substantiate that Avadiy had demanded money beyond his authority. Furthermore, it was established that the request for approval from his superior had been sent only on November 19, revealing inconsistencies between the date of the complaint and the subsequent administrative actions.

Justice Bibu Datt Guru, delivering the judgment, cited multiple Supreme Court rulings and stated, “It is not appropriate to convict in the absence of sufficient evidence to prove the charges.”

Following the verdict, Avadiy expressed relief and made a formal request to the government, saying, “Justice cannot be delayed for so long. I now respectfully request that my pension be granted.”
