Jammu & Kashmir | September 1, 2025 – The Indian Army on Sunday engaged in a fierce exchange of fire with suspected infiltrators along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Balakot sector of Poonch district.
Troops on patrol detected suspicious movement near the LoC and opened fire, triggering a heavy gunfight with the suspected terrorists. The encounter is ongoing, with further details awaited.
This development comes a day after security forces achieved a significant breakthrough in the fight against cross-border terrorism in the Gurez sector of Bandipora district. In a major operation, forces neutralised Bagu Khan, also known as ‘Human GPS’ or ‘Samandar Chacha’, a key figure in facilitating infiltration into the Kashmir Valley for nearly three decades.
Active in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) since 1995, Khan was regarded as the most crucial link in the infiltration network, having masterminded over 100 attempts, the majority of them successful. His intimate knowledge of secret routes and difficult terrain made him a pivotal facilitator of cross-border terrorism. Khan was gunned down along with another militant while attempting to infiltrate through the Nowshera Naar area on Saturday.
Meanwhile, security forces in Bihar have been placed on high alert following intelligence inputs that three Pakistani terrorists affiliated with the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) may have entered the state via Nepal.
According to officials, the Bihar Police headquarters has circulated an alert to all district units, releasing the names and photographs of the suspected infiltrators. It is believed that the group crossed over from Nepal through Araria district.
The developments highlight the persistent challenge of cross-border infiltration and the heightened state of security vigilance across the country.
