New Delhi, September 30 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday welcomed US President Donald Trump’s newly announced comprehensive roadmap to end the Gaza war, calling it a “viable pathway to long-term and sustainable peace, security and development for both the Palestinian and Israeli people.”
Expressing India’s support for the initiative, Mr. Modi wrote on X:
“We welcome President Donald J. Trump’s announcement of a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict. It provides a viable pathway to long-term and sustainable peace, security and development for the Palestinian and Israeli people, as also for the larger West Asian region. We hope that all concerned will come together behind President Trump’s initiative and support this effort to end conflict and secure peace.”
The remarks came shortly after President Trump unveiled a 20-point peace framework in Washington, following his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Trump described the plan as one that could bring “an immediate end” to the Gaza war, provided both Israel and Hamas agree to its terms.
Under the proposal, Israel would not occupy Gaza, and hostilities would cease immediately with reciprocal steps from both parties. Hamas would be required to release all Israeli hostages — dead or alive — within 72 hours of Israel’s acceptance of the plan. In return, Israel would free 250 Palestinian prisoners serving life terms and an additional 1,700 Gazans detained since the outbreak of the conflict on October 7, 2023.
The plan further calls for the demilitarisation of Hamas, followed by a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces, suspension of military operations, and freezing of battle lines. President Trump emphasized that while the United States fully supports Israel, “the tyranny of terror has to end.”
If implemented, the initiative marks one of the most significant diplomatic efforts in recent years to bring peace to the region, with the potential to reshape the trajectory of the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
