The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) will complete 100 years on October 1, marking a historic milestone for the organisation. To commemorate the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release a postage stamp and a coin on the eve of the centenary celebrations. RSS General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale is also expected to be present at the event.
In the 126th episode of Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Modi described the centenary as a moment of national pride. “This Vijayadashami is very special for another reason. It marks 100 years of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. This journey of a century is as amazing, unprecedented, and inspiring as it is. A century ago, when the RSS was founded, the nation had been bound in the chains of slavery for centuries. That slavery had wounded our self-respect and confidence. The world’s oldest civilisation was facing an identity crisis,” he said.
He praised the organisation’s contributions, noting that “the spirit of sacrifice, service, and discipline has been the true strength of the Sangh.” He added, “Today, the RSS has been tirelessly engaged in serving the nation for a hundred years. Whether during natural disasters or times of crisis, its volunteers are often the first to reach out with support. The spirit of ‘Nation First’ guides every endeavour of millions of swayamsevaks. I extend my best wishes to every volunteer dedicating themselves to the great yagna of national service.”
Nationwide and Global Events Planned
The centenary celebrations will formally begin on Vijayadashami, October 2, with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat addressing the gathering in Nagpur. Former President Ram Nath Kovind will attend as the chief guest.
According to RSS Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh Sunil Ambekar, commemorative events will continue until Vijayadashami in 2026. Delegates from Ghana, South Africa, Thailand, Indonesia, the UK, and the USA will participate in the October 2 programme, which will also receive international media coverage.
Throughout the centenary year, Bhagwat and Hosabale will travel across all prants (regions) of the RSS. Following the model of Bhagwat’s three-day Samvad programme held in Delhi this August, similar events are scheduled in major cities. Bengaluru will host a two-day event on November 7–8, followed by Kolkata on December 21, and Mumbai on February 6–7, 2026.
Ambekar added that tremendous enthusiasm is visible among RSS workers nationwide, as the centenary becomes not only a moment of celebration but also of renewed commitment to service and national unity.
