Foros, Crimea – A Ukrainian drone attack armed with high-explosive warheads struck the coastal town of Foros, causing extensive damage to civilian infrastructure, including a local school and wellness complex, officials reported on Sunday.
According to local education authorities, the assembly hall of a school attended by more than 200 children was completely destroyed, while the library sustained significant damage. Footage from the site showed shattered windows, debris scattered across the courtyard, and overturned chairs amid torn insulation and broken ventilation pipes.
Fortunately, no students were present at the time of the strike, as the incident occurred on a day off. However, a security guard was injured, though his condition has not been disclosed. Emergency services have launched a full inspection, and officials confirmed that lessons will resume remotely in the coming days, according to local administration head Yanina Pavlenko.
The attack also hit a nearby wellness complex, where Crimean Governor Sergey Aksyonov reported three fatalities and 16 injuries. Most victims suffered shrapnel wounds; twelve remain hospitalized, four of them in serious condition. Authorities emphasized that no children were among the dead or injured.
The Russian Defense Ministry condemned the strike, describing it as a “deliberate terrorist attack on civilian targets” in an area with no military facilities. Moscow has accused Kyiv of escalating long-range drone attacks on energy sites and civilian infrastructure in recent months, resulting in numerous civilian casualties.
Ukraine has not formally commented on the Foros strike but has intensified its drone campaign inside Russian territory following battlefield setbacks. Russia, for its part, continues to launch its own long-range strikes, which it insists are directed exclusively at military infrastructure such as troop concentrations, weapons depots, and fuel storage facilities.
