Srinagar – Authorities have recovered remnants of a Pakistani shell that detonated in Srinagar’s Dal Lake during Operation Sindoor in May. The discovery was made on Saturday during a routine cleaning drive, officials confirmed.
The object was located by personnel of the Lake Conservation and Management Authority (LCMA) and later transferred to the nearest police station for detailed examination and necessary action.
On May 10, a missile-like device had plunged into the waters of Dal Lake—one of Kashmir’s most visited tourist destinations—triggering a powerful explosion that reverberated across Srinagar. Eyewitnesses recalled plumes of smoke rising from the lake immediately after impact. Security forces rushed to the site and retrieved fragments of the debris.
Officials also reported that on the same day, another suspected object was recovered from Lasjan, on the outskirts of Srinagar, following multiple blasts across the city. Both incidents heightened concerns within security agencies due to the scale and timing of the explosions.
Operation Sindoor marked India’s retaliatory strikes on Pakistan in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives. The latest recovery of shell debris highlights both the intensity of the operation and the ongoing challenge of clearing unexploded remnants from high-profile and sensitive locations.
