Actor-turned-politician Vijay has sharpened his political rhetoric, declaring that the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections will be a contest between the DMK and his own Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).
Speaking at a public rally in Nagapattinam, Vijay accused the ruling DMK of attempting to suppress his outreach efforts. “Wherever I go, power supply is deliberately cut. Would the same happen if Prime Minister Modi were to visit? Don’t try to intimidate me—you will see the answer in the elections,” he said.
Vijay also took aim at Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, questioning the purpose of his frequent foreign trips. “Are these visits meant to attract investments for Tamil Nadu, or are they for securing investments abroad for your own family?” he asked. He further alleged that unnecessary restrictions were being imposed on TVK’s campaign events in an attempt to disrupt his public meetings.
Clarifying his campaign strategy, Vijay said his rallies were held only on Saturdays to minimize disruption. “I want to ensure people’s work is not affected and that some get a day of rest. That is why we organize meetings only on weekends,” he explained.
Today’s rally came in the backdrop of the Madras High Court’s recent criticism of political roadshows for causing inconvenience to the public. TVK’s event arrangements were notably more cautious in response. Amid loud cheers from supporters, Vijay raised the symbolic Vel (spear) gifted to him by party workers, sending the crowd into a frenzy. The final 250 meters of the rally route took nearly an hour to cover as enthusiastic supporters surged around him.
