Kottayam: Human remains, including a skull and bones, were discovered in a wooded area near the playground of Kotayam Arpukkara Medical College Higher Secondary School. The remains were found on Friday evening when children, playing football on the school grounds, went into the nearby forest in search of a stray ball.
Authorities have expressed concern over how the remains remained unnoticed for months, despite the area being adjacent to busy roads and a crowded bus stop. The decomposed condition of the body, which produced a strong odor, had apparently gone unnoticed.
The school’s surrounding walls are largely in a dilapidated state, and dense growth of vegetation has encroached near the playground, contributing to the concealment of the remains. The circumstances have raised questions about the safety and security of the area, prompting calls for a thorough investigation.
Police have initiated a probe to determine the identity of the deceased and the cause of death, while the school administration has assured cooperation in the investigation.
