Ayodhya Deepotsav 2025: A Spectacle of Light, Devotion, and Record-Breaking Glory

Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh — October 19: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the ninth grand edition of Ayodhya’s Deepotsav on Sunday, marking the occasion with a symbolic coronation of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita. The majestic festival, held along the banks of the sacred Saryu River, showcased a dazzling confluence of devotion, culture, and global recognition.

Following special prayers and rituals, the Chief Minister addressed the gathering, emphasizing the deeper spiritual significance of the Festival of Lights. “When we began Deepotsav in 2017, our vision was to show the world what a true festival of light looks like — one that celebrates divinity, purity, and the triumph of dharma,” Yogi Adityanath said.

Over 2.6 Million Lamps Illuminate Ayodhya

This year’s celebration set two new Guinness World Records, with an unprecedented 2,617,215 earthen lamps lit simultaneously across the ghats of Ayodhya and 2,128 devotees participating in the Saryu Aarti. Representatives from the Guinness Book of World Records verified the figures using drone footage and officially certified the achievement.

The banks of Ram Ki Paidi came alive with mesmerizing laser and light shows, traditional Ramleela performances, and beautifully decorated ghats that drew thousands of pilgrims and tourists from across the country and abroad.

Reviving the Legacy of King Vikramaditya

Saints and spiritual leaders attending the coronation described the event as a revival of the ancient Vikramaditya tradition, saying the grandeur of the festival brought back the essence of the Treta Yuga. Many expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for making possible what was once deemed “unimaginable.”

In recognition of this remarkable feat, Tourism and Culture Minister Jaiveer Singh and Principal Secretary Amrit Abhijat presented the Chief Minister with two Guinness World Record certificates — one for “Lighting the Maximum Number of Oil Lamps” and another for “The Largest Number of People Performing Aarti Simultaneously.”

Political Message and Vision for Ayodhya’s Future

In his address, Chief Minister Adityanath also took a veiled swipe at opposition parties, recalling that during the Ram Janmabhoomi movement, the Congress had dismissed Lord Ram as a ‘myth’, and Ram devotees were fired upon under the Samajwadi Party government.

Contrasting the past with the present, he said, “Those who once bowed before Babur’s tomb did not come for the Pran Pratishtha ceremony of Lord Ram. Today, the same Ayodhya that once echoed with the sound of gunfire is now glowing in the light of millions of lamps.”

Highlighting the city’s rapid transformation, the Chief Minister described Ayodhya as a “magnificent confluence of heritage and development,” noting that over 15.1 million lamps were lit across Uttar Pradesh during this year’s festivities.

A Festival that Reflects Faith and Progress

The Ayodhya Deepotsav 2025 not only celebrated devotion but also showcased India’s growing cultural confidence on the world stage. The event reaffirmed Ayodhya’s place as a global symbol of peace, heritage, and spiritual illumination, while serving as a testament to Uttar Pradesh’s emergence as a model of cultural revival and development.
