Trump Warns Hamas to Honour Gaza Ceasefire or Face ‘Eradication’

Washington, October 29, 2025 — U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Hamas, urging the militant group to strictly adhere to the fragile Gaza ceasefire or face “eradication.” Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump asserted that Israel reserves the full right to respond to any violations of the truce.

“If Hamas does not behave, they’ll be eradicated,” Trump declared, reaffirming Washington’s unwavering support for Israel. He clarified that while the United States would not deploy troops, its allies in the region would act swiftly if Hamas breached the ceasefire.

“Israel has every right to defend itself. If they’re attacked, they should hit back,” the President said.

Reports from Gaza’s civil defence agency indicated that Israeli airstrikes continued on Tuesday despite the ceasefire, following accusations by the Israeli military that Hamas had targeted its troops. According to the agency, which operates under Hamas’ administration, at least 30 people were killed in strikes across several areas of the enclave.

Vice President JD Vance, however, maintained that the ceasefire was “largely holding” despite what he described as “isolated skirmishes.”

Under the terms of the U.S.-brokered truce, Hamas had agreed to return the remains of Israeli hostages captured during the October 7, 2023, assault on Israel, in which 251 people were taken captive. The exchange process has faced repeated setbacks over disputes regarding the identities and conditions of the returned bodies.

Israel accused Hamas of violating the ceasefire by failing to return the remains of all deceased hostages, while Hamas claimed that locating the bodies amid Gaza’s devastated landscape would take time.

The group came under renewed criticism earlier this week after returning what it claimed were the remains of a hostage—later confirmed by Israeli forensic experts to be partial remains of an individual whose body had already been repatriated nearly two years earlier. According to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office, the incident constituted a serious breach of the truce agreement.

The ceasefire, which took effect on October 10, continues to hang in the balance as both sides trade accusations amid growing international concern over its collapse.
