Washim (Maharashtra): In a shocking case of filicide, a man in Maharashtra allegedly killed his two-year-old twin daughters after a domestic dispute with his wife and then walked into a police station to confess to the crime.
The accused, identified as Rahul Chavan, a resident of Washim district, was travelling with his wife and children when an argument erupted between the couple. According to police, the dispute escalated to the point where Chavan’s wife decided to leave for her parents’ home, while he continued the journey alone with their daughters.
In what investigators described as an act of uncontrolled rage, Chavan drove to a forested area near Ancharwadi in Buldhana district, where he allegedly slit the throats of his twin daughters. After committing the murders, he reportedly attempted to destroy evidence by setting the bodies on fire before driving straight to the Washim police station, where he confessed to the killings.
A police team immediately rushed to the scene and recovered the partially burnt bodies of the children. Forensic experts collected samples from the site as part of the ongoing investigation.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Manisha Kadam and other senior officials visited the crime scene to oversee the initial inquiry and evidence collection. Authorities said that the motive behind the gruesome act appears to be linked to the domestic altercation, though further investigation is underway to establish the full sequence of events.
Police have registered a case of murder and destruction of evidence, and Chavan remains in custody as the probe continues.
